David Hodges is the founder of Hodges Burke Financial and a seasoned insurance professional with decades of experience helping individuals and families protect what matters most. Known for his deep understanding of risk management and his gift for meaningful conversation, David brings both expertise and empathy to every client relationship.
David’s approach is rooted in listening. He believes that every financial decision begins with a story, and he has built a career on hearing the ones that others often overlook. “I’ve had countless conversations that go far beyond insurance,” David says. “People open up when they feel heard, and that’s when real solutions begin.”
With a career that spans life insurance, financial wellness, and business consulting, David offers clients not just products, but perspective. His insights are shaped by years of experience and a genuine curiosity about people and their lives. Whether guiding a family through legacy planning or helping a business owner navigate risk, David’s advice is grounded, practical, and personal.
A proud graduate of the University of South Carolina, David began his career in life insurance after a brief stint in law school. He describes that time as a detour that ultimately led him to his true calling. A lifelong South Carolinian, he is also a passionate historian and book collector. His love of literature led him to own The Book Place, a beloved Columbia landmark, for five memorable years.
David is deeply engaged in the Columbia community. He serves as an elder at First Presbyterian Church and sits on several local boards, including The Cooperative Ministry, Riverbanks Zoo Society, South Caroliniana Society Executive Council, and the South Carolina Humanities Board. His past service includes leadership roles with the State Museum Foundation and the Central Carolina Community Foundation.
Above all, David is proud to be Sue’s husband. Sue is the founder of The Happy Café on Forest Drive. Together, they are the parents of four grown children and the joyful grandparents of nine grandchildren.
